Al-Yurae – European Ambassadors in Sunday called on the government not to follow Russia’s illegal decision to recognize the declaration of independence of the Donbass and Lugansk regions, as well as to call on Russia to immediately halt its military operation in Ukraine.
This came when European Ambassadors met with Sudanese Foreign Minister-designate Ali Sadiq, according to a statement from the European Union mission in Sudan.
“Today I had the privilege of heading a delegation of ambassadors and heads of missions from EU countries, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy and Spain, to present the position of our countries, as well as on behalf of the Troika countries (the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Norway) as well as Canada and Switzerland on developments in Ukraine,” said Robert van Dole, head of the EU mission in Sudan.
“The delegation of ambassadors met with the Sudanese Foreign Minister in charge, and we condemned in the strongest possible terms the Russian invasion of Ukraine and provocations by the armed forces of the Russian Federation.”
“The diplomatic delegation also informed the Sudanese minister in charge that we condemn Belarus’s involvement in this aggression against Ukraine and call on it to abide by its international obligations.”
“As ambassadors during the meeting, we invited the Republic of Sudan to join the Group of States and come out publicly in support of multilateralism and adopt rules based on the international order that clearly condemn the violations of the Russian Federation. In particular, we expect with great interest the Sudanese position in the UNITED Nations General Assembly on this issue.”
“We call on Sudan not to follow Russia’s illegal decision to recognize the declaration of independence of the Donbass and Lugansk regions and to discourage other countries from doing so,” he said.
“We have also called on the Republic of Sudan, as a member of the international community, to call on Russia to immediately stop this aggression, which endangers international peace and security on a global scale.”
On Thursday, the Sudanese Embassy in Moscow denied that the President of the Council of Sovereignty, Mohammed Hamdan Daqlu “Hamiditi”, supported Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to recognize the sovereignty of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
The denial came after activists circulated on the media a video statement of “Hamidati” at the time saying, “I am happy to visit Russia, we hope that the situation will be resolved peacefully and that the countries of the world will avoid wars. As for Russia, it has the right to act for its citizens and protect its people. This is her right under the Constitution and the law.”
At dawn on Thursday, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, followed by angry reactions from several countries and demands for tighter sanctions against Moscow.
