The Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted that the number of refugees in the country is very much higher than the numbers recorded in the records of the UNHCR.
Foreign Undersecretary Dafallah al-Hajj said in a meeting with Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees Raouf Mazou on the sidelines of his participation in high-level meetings of the IOM Council in Geneva, according to Radio Dabanga, that large numbers of refugees live outside the camps and share limited health and education services with local communities.
He asked UNHCR to contribute to the completion of the process of counting and registering all refugees in Sudan in order to enable the Sudanese authorities to develop service and development plans and programs in an accurate manner.
White Nile burden
On the other hand, the governor of the White Nile, Omar Al-Khalifa, revealed the presence of “350” thousand refugees from the State of South Sudan distributed over “10” camps in the localities of peace and the two border mountains in the state.
Omar told the Sudanese state news agency (SUNA) that the refugees have placed a huge burden on the state and cast a shadow over the security situation, health, education and drinking water services.
The governor of the White Nile revealed a shortage in the budget for food and services for refugee camps amounting to 50% of the allocated budgets,
In the same context, he pointed out that the state hosts approximately (18) thousand displaced Hausa people who were displaced by the events in Blue Nile.
