A military source in the Sudanese army told Al Jazeera that “army forces took full control of the Presidential Palace in Khartoum on Friday morning, and are currently pursuing Rapid Support Forces inside the Arab Market in downtown Khartoum”.
The source explained that the army initially controlled the eastern gate of the Presidential Palace, killing dozens of Rapid Support Forces members inside the palace, while others managed to flee to the Arab Market and Al-Ghaba Street in central Khartoum.
A statement from the Sudanese army said it “crushed the terrorist Dagalo militia in central Khartoum, the Arab Market, and the buildings of the Republican Palace and ministries”.
Army spokesman Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah added that army forces destroyed enemy personnel and equipment and seized large quantities of their equipment and weapons, confirming “moving forward on all fighting axes until victory is completed by cleansing every inch of the country”.
The Sudanese army regained control of several government headquarters surrounding the Presidential Palace in central Khartoum, including the headquarters of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, and Minerals.
The battle to reclaim the Republican Palace comes amid intensified clashes between the army and Rapid Support Forces to tighten control over the capital Khartoum, of which the Rapid Support Forces seized large areas at the beginning of the war
