Chadian judiciary calls for imprisonment of President Mahamat Déby’s chief of staff on corruption charges

Published:

On Wednesday, the public prosecutor in Chad called for a 10-year prison sentence for Idriss Youssouf Boy, the former minister and chief of staff to President Mahamat Idriss Déby, on charges related to “corruption” and “influence peddling” in a financial case exceeding 10 billion CFA francs (about $670 million).

The case dates back to 2021, when Chadian businessman About Hakim Bouder accused the former official of demanding money from him in exchange for awarding public contracts to his company, “Hashim Business Center.”

The prosecution also requested a similar sentence for businessman Bouder on charges of “corruption,” as he is accused of paying large sums to the former government official in return for illegal favors.

For their part, Bouder’s lawyers demanded that Idriss Youssouf Boy return 11.8 billion CFA francs, in addition to financial compensation of 5 billion CFA francs, while Boy’s defense team denied the charges, arguing that the case lacks conclusive evidence
