The Rapid Support Forces attack power stations across Khartoum using drones.

Published:

Khartoum: Sudanese authorities said on Thursday that drone attacks had caused widespread power outages across Khartoum and surrounding states, as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued a series of long-range attacks more than two years into their war with the army.

In recent months, the RSF has been expelled from almost all areas of central Sudan, prompting a shift in their tactics from ground assaults to drone attacks targeting power stations, dams, and other infrastructure in army-controlled regions.

The Sudanese Electricity Company stated in a press release that drones bombed Khartoum State on Wednesday evening. The company added that staff were working to extinguish large fires, assess the damage, and carry out repairs.

The conflict between the two forces has devastated Sudan, displacing more than 13 million people from their homes and spreading famine and disease. Tens of thousands have died in the fighting.
