Port Sudan- (SUNA) – The General Authority for Geological Research (the technical arm of the Ministry of Minerals) has revealed the loss of all its geological maps and technical reports due to the war, which led to the destruction of the headquarters of both the Ministry and the General Authority for Geological Research.

During her meeting with the Russian company “RosGeo”—which was selected by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources during the meetings of the Sudanese-Russian Joint Ministerial Committee according to the protocol signed between the two countries in 2013 on the sidelines of the 16th Economic Forum in Kazan, Russia—Dr. Hind Siddiq, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Minerals, requested a digital copy of the data from the joint project between the two countries, as well as previous geological information (the Russian project). The Russian side responded immediately, handing over to the Undersecretary a hard copy of the technical report for the project in addition to two geological map atlases.

Dr. Hind indicated that digital copies of all the information will be delivered to the Sudanese side at a later date.

The Russian side discussed investment opportunities in mining in Sudan, especially in the fields of chrome and manganese mining.

The Sudanese Ministry of Minerals delegation requested that the Russian side send proposals for technical review, to be further discussed during the eighth session of the Joint Ministerial Committee, scheduled for June.

For his part, Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Al-Ghazali, affirmed the embassy’s readiness to simplify procedures and facilitate the Russian side’s acquisition of entry visas, in addition to establishing a joint contact point between the embassy and RosGeo.
