The Resistance Committees of the Eighth Neighborhood Revolution in Omdurman reported that overcrowding at the isolation center in the government hospital has led to some cholera patients being treated on the streets, marking a humanitarian tragedy and a deterioration of the health situation.
Khartoum Health: Deployment of Field Clinics to Treat Cholera Patients in All Localities
On Monday, May 26, 2025, the Resistance Committees of the Eighth Neighborhood warned of the spread of the cholera epidemic in the area, announcing that there were no available spaces for new patients at the government hospital’s isolation center.
Calls for help are rising to save hundreds of cholera patients in Omdurman, as the epidemic has worsened over the past two days due to the difficulty of accessing isolation centers, lack of medical care, and shortages of intravenous fluids used to treat patient dehydration.
Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Osman stated on Sunday, May 25, 2025, that cholera cases were declining, noting that government response teams were working to monitor and combat the epidemic.
However, volunteers report that isolation centers are seeing an increase in cholera cases and are calling for the provision of medical camps to receive emergency cases. In Khartoum North, volunteers mentioned finding a young man on the street suffering from cholera, who received first aid after being unconscious for hours.
Appeal to Citizens to Use Clean Water and Wash Hands
The Khartoum State Ministry of Health, through the Emergency Health Committee, urged citizens to drink water treated with chlorine for purification (chlorinated water), to wash their hands, and to ensure food safety as essential preventive measures to limit the spread of the epidemic.
The daily epidemiological report on acute watery diarrhea (cholera) from the Emergency Health Committee of the Khartoum State Ministry of Health confirmed that 168 patients recovered and were discharged from isolation centers yesterday.
At the same time, 76 cases were treated by rapid response teams and field clinics across the state’s seven localities without being referred to isolation centers, as the teams implemented all necessary treatment protocols for the patients.
The number of cases treated at field clinics in the Salha area reached 52.
The report announced the disinfection of 1,452 homes and shelters in the localities of Omdurman, Karari, Bahri, and Jebel Aulia, and the distribution of 4,360 chlorine tablets, with ongoing environmental sanitation campaigns and bans on the sale of exposed food and beverages. The number of people benefiting from health promotion efforts reached 2,679.
The health sector in the capital, Khartoum, has suffered massive destruction, with around 125 public and private hospitals ceasing operations—some of which were converted into military bases during the Rapid Support Forces’ control.
The daily report from the Khartoum State Ministry of Health confirmed the treatment of 167 cholera cases, with rapid response teams intervening to treat 76 patients at field clinics across the state’s seven localities.
The government report also noted the treatment of 52 cases in the Salha area south of Omdurman, combating the epidemic in 1,452 homes and shelters in Omdurman, Karari, Bahri, and Jebel Aulia, and the distribution of thousands of chlorine tablets to purify and disinfect drinking water.
