Sudan Accuses the UAE of Acting Against It within the Non-Aligned Movement

Published:

Khartoum — The Sudanese government on Sunday accused the United Arab Emirates of “intense hostile efforts against it in international forums,” referring to the recent Non-Aligned Movement meetings at the expert level in New York last week, where Abu Dhabi sought to exclude a clause expressing solidarity with Sudan from the draft final statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it described as “the frenzied hostile efforts of the Abu Dhabi regime,” which it accuses of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the war that has been ongoing since mid-April 2023.

The ministry stated, “The United Arab Emirates is taking actions in international forums against Sudan,” which it considers “an extension of its ongoing aggression against the Sudanese people, their national state, and its economic, cultural, and historical resources, through the Rapid Support Forces, the ‘genocide militia’.”

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Babiker Al-Siddiq said the ministry had observed “desperate moves by the Abu Dhabi regime’s delegation at the recent Non-Aligned Movement meetings at the expert level in New York last week, aimed at excluding the reference to solidarity with Sudan in the draft statement and not describing the RSF as an entity rebelling against national legitimacy.”

He said the UAE sought to exclude a clause expressing solidarity with Sudan from the final statement.

He added that “the UAE delegation attempted to insert a paragraph referring to the parallel government that the RSF seeks to establish in areas under its control,” adding: “Abu Dhabi is the one seeking to establish this parallel government in defiance of international legitimacy, as represented by the UN Security Council, the African Union, the Arab League, and other international and regional organizations, all of which have agreed to reject and condemn its announcement.” He continued: “These moves are blatant, and the relationship between the Abu Dhabi regime and the RSF is well known. The UAE government is thus considered a rogue regime in terms of international norms and laws, and the traditions and ethics of collective diplomacy.”

He considered this “further evidence of that regime’s insistence on its malicious interference in Sudan’s internal affairs,” pointing to “what has been revealed by the international press about the Abu Dhabi regime’s harboring of the militia leadership and its full supervision of all its activities.”

He accused the UAE of “playing a subversive role, especially in multilateral meetings and international platforms,” adding: “Such efforts have been repeated in many meetings, such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation meetings in Istanbul last June, and meetings of the Arab League Council.”

According to him, “the main goal of the Abu Dhabi regime’s participation in these meetings is to prevent the issuance of condemnations against the RSF and to evade its direct responsibility for the crimes of genocide, terrorism, and grave human rights violations it has committed, as well as to call for the violation of Sudan’s sovereignty.”

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on “the entire international community, its states, and organizations not to allow the Abu Dhabi regime to use international forums to encourage impunity and protect terrorism and genocide, which are embodied by the Janjaweed militia and its regional sponsor.”

It said, “The RSF, with the full sponsorship and support of the Abu Dhabi regime, continues to insist on its aggression against the Sudanese people, their national state, and all aspects of their livelihoods, representing a threat to regional peace and security.”
