Vice President: We Have the Right to Study All Initiatives to End the War, but There Is No Party to Negotiate With

Sudanese Sovereignty Council Vice President Malik Agar emphasized that Sudan has the right to consider all initiatives aimed at ending the ongoing war in the country, stressing that “there is currently no party to negotiate with.”

In a meeting with local media, Agar expressed confidence that “the war will end soon, we will build the state and achieve justice for all Sudanese,” underscoring his commitment to focus on development and societal reconciliation post-peace.

He highlighted the critical need to preserve Sudan and the Horn of Africa as a whole, noting that “regional security depends on the stability of our country.”

Agar also praised the role of the Sudanese Armed Forces, stating, “The duty of the armed forces now is to end the war by all available means,” while calling on those capable of bearing arms to mobilize and support the state during this critical phase.

He added, “The Sudanese people stand with the armed forces and their leadership, and we will witness a decisive victory; the armed forces will triumph, and the army will never be defeated.”

Since April 2023, intense and widespread clashes erupted between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) across various regions of Sudan, with both sides vying to control strategic headquarters.

Arab, African, and international parties have mediated ceasefire efforts, but these initiatives have failed to secure a lasting truce.

Tensions between Sovereignty Council Chairman and Sudanese Armed Forces leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo surfaced publicly following the signing of the “Framework Agreement” that laid the foundation for the transitional period between the military component (including the army and RSF). The agreement recognized the army’s withdrawal from politics and the transfer of power to civilians.

Dagalo accused the Sudanese army of “planning to remain in power and not hand over authority to civilians,” following the army’s demand to integrate RSF forces under the armed forces, while the army labeled RSF movements as “rebellion against the state.”

The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced around 13 million people, some of whom have fled to neighboring countries. The United Nations and African Union describe the humanitarian crisis as among the worst globally.
