El Fasher Resistance Committees Hold Sudanese Army and Joint Forces Leaders Responsible for RSF Takeover of Heglig

The Coordination of Resistance Committees in El Fasher said on Monday, as reported by the (Ultra Sudan) website, that key cities and strategically important areas are facing a real danger, while political and military leaders remain in safe zones, preoccupied with media battles and exchanging accusations instead of focusing on the concerns of the people, the protection of the land, the preservation of lives, and achieving victory over the Rapid Support Forces.

According to the same report, the El Fasher Resistance Committees Coordination added that the army is withdrawing from sensitive positions without providing transparent explanations, while the joint force is bogged down in bureaucratic disputes, leaving the Rapid Support Forces to advance on the ground by exploiting the chaos and lack of coordination.

The Coordination continued: “The defeats the country has witnessed in recent months were not merely geographic collapses or tactical withdrawals under military pressure, nor just attempts to avoid destruction of infrastructure.”

It added: “What happened in Al-Jazira, Nyala, El Fasher, and then Babnousa and Heglig reveals a far more bitter reality: these cities did not fall because of the enemy’s strength, since the militias are not an overwhelming force capable on their own of toppling cities, but rather because of the responsibility of the military and political leadership that hesitates when decisive action is required, and disappears when its presence is most needed.”

The loss by the armed forces of the Heglig oil area in the west of the country has sparked anger on social media, with some users holding the military leadership responsible for losing vital economic areas in West Kordofan State.

Activists circulated videos and photos purportedly showing officers from South Sudan’s government Defense Forces alongside RSF fighters near the Heglig area on Monday.

These images and clips have raised questions over whether the state of South Sudan has intervened to protect the Heglig oil zone and ensure the continued flow of crude through Sudanese territory. Energy ministries in both Sudan and South Sudan are expected to issue separate statements clarifying the developments in Heglig.

The Resistance Committees in El Fasher hold the Sudanese army leadership and allied forces responsible for the Rapid Support Forces’ takeover of Heglig.
