Kamal Idris meets UK special envoy to Sudan, discusses cease-fire efforts in El-Fasher

Published:

At an official meeting held at the prime minister’s office in Port Sudan, Dr. Kamal Idris discussed with Richard Crowder, the United Kingdom’s special envoy to Sudan, ways to strengthen British humanitarian assistance to the country amid the escalating challenges posed by the ongoing war.

During the meeting, Crowder reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to continue providing humanitarian aid to Sudan, noting that the deteriorating conditions facing millions of people as a result of the atrocities of the war require intensified international efforts. He explained that the British government is urging other countries and international organizations to honor their commitments to Sudan, which amount to nearly £800 million pledged during recent meetings in London.

The envoy added that the United Kingdom will continue its diplomatic initiatives at international forums, with a new meeting scheduled in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The aim, he said, is to sustain discussions on the situation in Sudan, coordinate global efforts to deliver urgent humanitarian aid, and ensure it reaches the most affected communities.

Crowder also stressed that the UK is working diligently to secure a cease-fire in El-Fasher, which would allow humanitarian assistance to reach civilians trapped in conflict zones. He underscored the importance of opening safe corridors and facilitating the work of humanitarian agencies to ensure aid reaches those in need without obstruction, as part of his country’s commitment to supporting humanitarian stability in Sudan.
