Sudanese Prime Minister Kamel Idris on Saturday urged diplomatic missions, United Nations organizations, and foreign agencies to return to the capital Khartoum and resume their work within a week, saying conditions are now suitable for the full restoration of diplomatic and governmental activity.
Idris made the remarks during an inspection tour accompanied by Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza, visiting several major hotels — including the Rotana, Kanon, and the historic Grand Hotel — to assess their readiness to host returning delegations.
He emphasized that the reopening of these facilities marks an important step toward rehabilitating infrastructure and public services, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving the business and tourism environment in the capital.
The Prime Minister instructed hotel managements to accelerate maintenance and renovation efforts, particularly at the Grand Hotel due to its historical significance.
Idris had previously announced that the Sudanese government had resumed its official duties from Khartoum, after relocating its operations to other cities following the outbreak of fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in mid-April 2023.
The call comes after the Sudanese Armed Forces declared in May that they had regained full control of Khartoum State, ending more than two years of RSF presence in the capital.
